Cool Library in Jiangmen City and Photos
Hello everyone, I visited a wonderful library, let me show you it in photos. Let’s talk about something super cool — the Grand Granary Bookstore of Librairie Avant-Garde in Jiangmen, China. 📚✨ If you’re into books, unique spaces, or just love a good story about turning old things into something new, this place is going to blow your mind! 😍
Imagine this: a bunch of old, abandoned granaries — you know, those big silos where grain used to chill — sitting quietly in Tangkou Town, Kaiping City, Jiangmen. This spot’s already famous for being the hometown of overseas Chinese and for its awesome Diaolou towers (think cool, historic watchtowers that are UNESCO-approved 🏛️). But then, the folks from Librairie Avant-Garde, a bookstore chain with a knack for quirky locations, swooped in and said, “Let’s make this epic!” 🌟
They took these dusty granaries and turned them into a bookstore that’s not just a place to grab a novel, but a whole vibe. Completed in 2023, this project is all about breathing new life into forgotten spaces. Out of seven buildings, five are the original granaries, patched up with their old-school roofs fixed to stop leaks while keeping that vintage look. The other two? They got a glow-up: one’s now a cozy coffee shop ☕ and the other’s a “literary bell tower” that’s 17 meters tall and totally Instagram-worthy. 📸
Here’s the fun part: they built a 72-meter-long gallery to connect the granaries, making it feel like you’re strolling through a book lover’s dream. This corridor’s got a sleek, modern roof that doesn’t even touch the old walls (leaving a cool skylight gap 🌈), and it doubles as a spot for cultural goodies and art displays. Inside the granaries, you’ve got about 165 square meters of space each, with high ceilings (up to 8.4 meters!) that make you feel like you’re in a book cathedral. The shelves are kept low so you can actually reach stuff, and the air conditioning? Sneakily hidden in the furniture — so clever! 🧠
The vibe here is all about mixing the past with the present. The outside walls still have those nostalgic symbols from way back, repainted to keep the history alive. There’s a main entrance by a huge banyan tree 🌳 on the west side, and another facing the village square — perfect for airflow and just wandering in. Plus, that bell tower? It’s got wild, twisty black steel stairs that let you peek out at the granaries, fields, and square like you’re in a movie. 🎬
This isn’t just a bookstore — it’s the first rural outpost for Librairie Avant-Garde in South China, and it’s all about bringing culture to the countryside. They’re not just selling books; they’re creating a space where people can hang out, sip coffee, and soak in some serious history and creativity. It’s like a love letter to the area’s heritage and a big “hello!” to modern design. 💌
So, if you’re ever near Jiangmen, swing by the Grand Granary Bookstore. It’s a chill spot to grab a book, snap some pics, and feel like you’ve stepped into a story where old meets new in the best way possible.
Just below there will be photos that I took in the library itself, I hope you like it and you will visit this place)
